Message from the Program Director

It is my privilege to lead a program dedicated to training compassionate, well-rounded Internal Medicine physicians with exceptional clinical skills. At St. Joseph’s, we believe the diversity of our community is one of our greatest strengths. It offers a unique environment for developing culturally competent physicians who are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Our curriculum includes broad exposure to inpatient and outpatient medicine, an intensive ICU rotation led by fellowship-trained faculty, and a wide range of subspecialty experiences. In addition to comprehensive clinical training, our residents actively engage in scholarly activity and research, helping to shape evidence-based practices and improve patient outcomes.

Education is further enhanced through biweekly interactive morning reports, weekly didactic sessions, monthly journal clubs, and simulation-based training at our state-of-the-art simulation center. These opportunities are designed to prepare our residents for successful careers in general Internal Medicine or further subspecialty fellowship training.

Our commitment to community engagement is a cornerstone of the program. Residents serve as mentors to undergraduate students in the Decision Medicine program and participate in the 4th Grade McKinley Medicine Project, an outreach initiative designed to spark early interest in medicine among elementary school students. We also collaborate with community-based organizations to enhance cultural competency training and better prepare our residents to serve diverse populations.

As we grow to a full complement of 20 residents per class, we remain committed to utilizing all available resources to provide the highest quality medical education. Our dedicated faculty continually advance their teaching skills by attending faculty development sessions and national conferences to stay current with evolving best practices in medical education.

We foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and mutual support. Our residents become a part of the St. Joseph’s family, and it is a joy to watch them grow both professionally and personally over the course of their training.
