Message from the Program Director

Welcome!  My name is Robert Protell MD, and I am the Program Director of the Dignity Health St Joseph’s Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. Above all else, our goal is to provide our residents the highest quality training. Our mission is to train Internal Medicine specialists who will compassionately and competently provide quality care for the vibrant and culturally diverse community of San Joaquin County. In addition to the highest quality clinical education, residents will engage in research and scholarly work that builds on the medical knowledge vital for evidence-based clinical practices with a specific focus on improving healthcare. Serving a challenging and medically complex population, we strive to prepare physicians to both deliver exceptional care and to recognize the humanity and essential dignity of each and every person—that is what we mean by humankindness.
