During a craniotomy, our neurosurgeon will cut a flap of skin on your scalp, remove a section of your skull, and expose your brain for surgery.
You may need a craniotomy for one of the following reasons:
A neurological team of experts will meet with you to discuss your craniotomy procedure at Dignity Health Central Coast. You may remain awake during the craniotomy in order for the neurosurgeon to operate on your brain and see the immediate result.
Your neurosurgeon and other care team members are by your side as you are admitted into one of our Dignity Health Central Coast hospitals. After your craniotomy, you will spend some time in our intensive care unit for several days.
You may experience pain and swelling in your face. Your care team will help you control your pain through medications and address any other physical, mental, or spiritual needs that you may have. Your doctor will give you discharge instructions that will explain your medications, activity, and appointments.
