LAS VEGAS, July 2, 2021 – Every second of every day, an older adult (age 65+) suffers a fall in the U.S.—making falls the leading cause of injury and injury death among seniors. According to the CDC, about 3 million older adults are treated in emergency departments for a fall injury each year and 300,000 older people are hospitalized for hip fractures.

Falls are common and costly among American seniors, age 65 and older. But falls are preventable and do not have to be an inevitable part of aging.

Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Community Wellness Center is offering a free workshop designed to help seniors maintain their independence by reducing the risk of falls.

The Stepping On: Fall Prevention Program is a free workshop that provides knowledge and skills to reduce falls, giving seniors the confidence needed to safely undertake everyday activities. The program is for both men and women.

The Stepping On program covers a range of topics including, Home Hazards, Safety in Public Places, Safe Footwear, Strength and Balance Exercises, Community Mobility, and Coping After a Fall.

The seven-session course is offered at no cost from 10:00 to noon on seven consecutive Fridays beginning July 9. For more information or to reserve a space in the class, call 702.616.4922.
