Saint Martín de Porres, the 16th century saint after whom San Martín Hospital is named, was known for his undivided care for animals and people alike. St. Rose Dominican is proud to continue in his tradition, carrying forward this annual family- and pet-friendly event.
Bring clean, new or used towels to donate to local pet shelters.
Martín de Porres was born in Lima, Peru, on December 9, 1579. Canonized by Pope John XXIII in 1962, he became the first saint of African descent in the Americas. At the age of 24, he was given the habit of a Dominican lay Brother, providing physical and spiritual care to the sick and poor, including slaves. He maintained an animal hospital, and established an orphanage for poor children.
