Pharmacy Residency Program
If your passion is delivering compassionate, direct patient care, St. Rose Dominican's Pharmacy Residency Program is precisely where you belong. Join us to gain invaluable experience in a supportive and high-quality healthcare setting.
- To develop clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions. This means learning how to manage complex medication regimens, optimize drug therapy, prevent drug-related problems, and provide patient education.
- To develop leadership skills. Residents learn about practice management, interdisciplinary teamwork, quality improvement, and potentially pharmacy administration.
- To prepare pharmacists for board certification (e.g., Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist - BCPS).
- To prepare pharmacists for PGY2 (Post-Graduate Year Two) residency training. A PGY2 is a specialized residency (e.g., in critical care, oncology, pediatrics, infectious diseases, etc.) that builds upon the generalist training of a PGY1.
- To provide experience in teaching, research, and scholarly activity. Many programs involve teaching pharmacy students, conducting a research project, and presenting findings.

- To develop specialized clinical expertise: Unlike the generalist nature of a PGY1, a PGY2 focuses on a very specific area of pharmacy practice. The goal is to become an expert in that chosen field.
- To prepare pharmacists for advanced clinical positions: A PGY2 resident is expected to develop into a highly competent, independent practitioner within their chosen specialty, capable of serving as a clinical specialist, leader, and educator in that area.
- To prepare for board certification in the specialty: For many specialties (e.g., critical care, oncology, pediatrics, infectious diseases), there are specific board certifications (e.g., BCCCP for critical care, BCOP for oncology). A PGY2 program is structured to provide the experience and knowledge necessary to pass these exams.
- To further refine research, teaching, and leadership skills within the context of the chosen specialty.
