Ways To Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities

Northridge Hospital volunteers are our stars—always there when you need them. Individually and collectively they touch lives and light up each and every room.

The opportunities to make a difference are numerous, and the rewards are countless. Unique volunteer opportunities include:

Ambassadors

Ambassadors provide personal attention and assistance to patients and families, whether by greeting and escorting visitors, or providing a personal touch to those in need.

Gift Shop

Our Gift Shop volunteers operate this unique store located in the Main Lobby. All Gift Shop revenue is donated to Northridge Hospital to support Patient Family Centered Care services, purchase essential equipment, and much more.

High School Medical Magnet Programs

We are proud to host and offer educational opportunities for high school students. These school partnerships within our community offer students a career-based experience in the health care field, assisting them to realize their future goals. The Medical Magnet program is a valued partnership with schools that provides career experience in all areas of the Hospital, in a classroom setting.

Hospital Departments

Whether they welcome patients or offer assistance, these volunteers provide a personal touch in Admitting, Radiology, Medical/Surgical Units, Physical Therapy and other departments within the hospital.

Surgery Liaison

These individuals take care of family members and visitors while patients are in surgery. They assist staff and patients with family communication, and play a vital role delivering important materials throughout the hospital.

Volunteer Escort Office

Volunteers provide personal attention to patients during admission and discharge, deliver materials between departments, and work on bulk mailing and other projects.

Pet Therapy Dog-tors

A visit from a friendly dog can be just the right medicine. Perhaps that’s why "Paws that Refresh" our pet therapy program is such a success. Accompanied by its trained owner-volunteer, a pet therapy dog visits most of the medical floors, twice daily, delivering unconditional love to the bedside of our patients. Learn more here.

Volunteens

Northridge Hospital offers opportunities to volunteer to more than 250 students from numerous San Fernando Valley high schools. Young adults ages 16 to 18 learn to care for others while receiving an introduction to medical careers. Please note: We don't offer weekend volunteer opportunities for Volunteens.
