Dignity Health doctor advocates for timely health care

Know when and where to go for medical attention this flu season

(PHOENIX - Nov. 3, 2025) – As flu and other respiratory illnesses circulate, a Dignity Health in Arizona infectious disease doctor is encouraging the community to seek appropriate medical attention when experiencing concerning symptoms or medical emergencies.

“It’s easy to dismiss worsening symptoms as ‘just a cold,’” said Dr. Omar Gonzalez, hospital epidemiologist for Dignity Health in Arizona. “But, delaying care for any sort of medical issue can lead to serious complications. Our medical team and facilities are equipped to take care of you and your loved ones when it matters most.”

Dignity Health in Arizona has a number of facilities to meet the specific needs of our patients based on the level of care required:

  • Emergency Department: For severe or life threatening symptoms requiring immediate medical attention such as difficult breathing, persistent pain, new confusion, bluish lips and sudden weakness among others.

  • Urgent Care: For conditions that need prompt attention but are not life threatening such as moderate fever, earaches, minor cuts or aches and pains.

  • Primary Care Provider: For mild, non-emergency symptoms like cough, runny nose, sore throat or low-grade fever that aren’t improving over a few days.

“As a Latino myself, I understand that in our culture, taking care of our loved ones is paramount,” said Dr. Gonzalez. “But, true care also means ensuring that we as individuals are healthy and there for them. Now is the time to take charge of your health.”

Here you can find information on the closest emergency department and urgent locations near you and a portal to help you find a primary care doctor if you do not already have one.
