San Martin Hospital Extends Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Capabilities

Dr. C.J. Park performs hospital’s first robotic-assisted thoracic procedures.

Posted in:

LAS VEGAS, October 4, 2021 – The surgical team at the San Martin Campus of Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican performed the hospital’s first robotic-assisted thoracic surgical procedures in September.

Dignity Health Medical Group Cardiovascular Thoracic surgeon, Dr. Chan J. Park, performed the procedures utilizing the hospital’s DaVinci Xi robotic surgical system. San Martin currently has two of these advanced robotic surgical systems, which are capable of assisting surgeons across a broad spectrum of intricate surgical cases. Dr. Park performed three procedures, including the removal of mediastinal tumors.

The precision, flexibility and control possible with robotic-assisted technology generally allows surgeons to work in a smaller field using smaller incisions than traditional surgery. In many cases, patient recovery is often faster with robotic-assisted procedures.

Kimberly Shaw, President and CEO of San Martin Hospital, said, “We are fortunate to have such amazing tools in the hands of a talented surgeon like Dr. Park, who is one of the only doctors in southern Nevada performing these procedures. We are proud he’s chosen the dedicated San Martin surgical team to support his work. With his skill and the robotic surgical systems we have available we are able to incorporate some of the most advanced medical techniques as we deliver the best, most compassionate care for our patients.”
