CHANDLER, AZ - Dec. 21, 2018 - The community outreach committee in the Maternal Child Health Department at Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center organized a successful toy drive for Jose’s Closet this holiday season. Thanks to involvement from both Chandler Regional and Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, the team was able to deliver a hefty dose of humankindness to this unique charity earlier this month.
A 501c3 organization supported by volunteers and donations, Jose’s Closet helps foster children and children being adopted in Apache Junction by providing clothes, toys, strollers, school backpacks, diapers and other needed supplies.
Dignity Health employees raised enough toys and clothes to completely fill two SUVs, a 15-passenger van, and a 6-foot trailer. Donations provided through the Dignity Health toy drive went directly to families in need.
“It was wonderful seeing how simple acts of kindness can enlighten others to spread the good feeling. I am very proud to say that I work for Dignity Health,” says Lyn Cluever, RN, a labor and delivery nurse at Chandler Regional who helped lead the initiative. “I am grateful for all the great people I work with and the wonderful community we are part of. There is so much love and giving!”
This is the second year the department has supported Jose’s Closet. Children are often removed from their homes with only the clothes they are wearing and many have never had anything to call their own. According to Jose’s Closet, Arizona has more than 20,000 kids in foster care at this time.
