Pediatric Inpatient Unit

A new pediatric inpatient unit opened in October 2014.

Phoenix Children’s Hospital at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center now offers 22 private patient rooms and around-the-clock coverage by pediatric-trained physicians and nurses for children requiring inpatient care. Every clinician on the team is specially skilled in pediatric medicine. Like all programs at Phoenix Children’s, this unit is 100 percent for children.

Children will be admitted to the unit by:

  • Direct admission by a primary care physician
  • Transfer from the Mercy Gilbert emergency department
  • Transfer from an outside urgent care or emergency department

Patients with more complex conditions or requiring advanced care will have direct access to Phoenix Children’s full array of dedicated subspecialists and can be seamlessly transferred to their main campus if needed.

The opening of the unit greatly enhances East Valley pediatric inpatient care and provides families and area physicians much-needed access to the breadth and depth of services offered only at Phoenix Children’s. It adds to the presence Arizona’s largest children’s hospital already has in the region, which includes Phoenix Children’s - East Valley Center, which offers specialty, urgent care and outpatient surgery, and a Phoenix Children’s Medical Group specialty care center on the Mercy Gilbert campus.
