Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellow

Samir El-Sawaf, MD

Samir El-Sawaf, MD

Medical School: Albany Medical College

Samir is so excited to head out to the West Coast after a life out East! He grew up in Queens, NYC and attended undergrad at Siena College in upstate NY, where he received a Bachelor’s in Biology and a Bachelor’s in Spanish. He stayed in NY for medical school at Albany Medical College where he grew in his passions for underserved primary care, reproductive justice, obstetrics, and LGBTQ+ health. During his 8 years in upstate NY he also developed a busy side gig as a wedding singer! After medical school he moved to Philadelphia for Family Medicine Residency at the University of Pennsylvania. While he absolutely loved Philadelphia and the rigorous high volume OB training and diverse pathologies there, he was surprised to find his favorite rotation was Rural Obstetrics, where he got to experience true, integrated obstetric care in the primary care setting. He chose to pursue OB fellowship to grow in his surgical skills and hopefully allow him to pursue a career in critical access full spectrum family medicine, including OB. Outside of medicine you can find him enjoying local theater, singing at a piano bar or karaoke night, enjoying new coffee shops, or going on outrageously long walks.
